"Diamond Recognition Award" at the SVIN Mission Thrombectomy Regional Awards for 2023-24
05 march 2024
Ukraine has been awarded the prestigious "Diamond Recognition Award" at the SVIN Mission Thrombectomy Regional Awards for 2023-24. This award recognizes outstanding achievements in significantly increasing the availability of thrombectomy in the respective region over the past year.
Mission Thrombectomy is a global initiative that has been in existence since 2016, aimed at popularizing this type of neurointervention to provide more accessible and quality care to the population, and reduce the level of disability among stroke patients. The initiative's goal is to double the availability of thrombectomy every two years in the countries registered in the project. As of September 2023, more than 100 countries have joined the initiative.
In Ukraine, the co-heads of the international project "MT2020+" (Mission Thrombectomy 2020+) of the Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology (SVIN) are Dmytro Lebedynets and Stanislav Konotopchyk.
Indeed, during the period of 2022-2023, we have noted a 91% increase in the number of interventions for M1 segment occlusions. Additionally, the Ministry of Health and the World Bank have procured 16 angiographs specifically for neurointerventions. These data confirm that specialists in the field of stroke medicine in Ukraine are continuously working to improve medical care, and these efforts resonate with global trends.
We are proud of the worthy recognition of our efforts and continue to expand educational projects and collaborate with colleagues of various disciplines and levels for further development of stroke services in Ukraine. Thank you to everyone working in this field. Let's create stroke care together!
